Pendulum impact testers for DWTT and DT testing are high-energy instruments designed for larger and thicker metal specimens than those normally used in Charpy tests. The pendulum impacts the notched specimen at high speed and causes it to break with one blow. In the case of a Dynamic Tear (DT) test, the energy absorbed as the crack moves through the specimen shows the metal's resistance to fast fracture; by contrast, a Drop Weight Tear Test (DWTT) examines the broken surface in order to determine the amounts of ductile shear and brittle fracture, especially in ferritic steel plates and pipeline steels.
Our high-energy pendulum impact testers support continuous testing of large specimen batches and display absorbed energy, impact toughness, and pendulum angle in real time, with automatic report printing available after each test. Specimens can be tested at temperatures between −196°C and room temperature to examine how their fracture behavior changes in cold environments. Pendulum impact testers for DWTT and DT are mainly used in steel production, machinery and automotive manufacturing, aerospace, materials research, and quality inspection.
