NDT Drop Weight Impact Testing Machine

Applicable Standards
  • GB/T 6803, ASTM E208, GOST 9454, ISO 12173, EN 10045-1

NDT drop weight impact testers determine the nil-ductility transition temperature of ferritic steel, which is the highest temperature at which a standard specimen still fractures in a brittle manner under specified impact conditions. To carry out the test, the lifting mechanism raises a hammer of specified mass to a preset height and then releases it to fall freely onto the specimen. The control system calculates the corresponding impact energy from the hammer mass and drop height. Results from specimens tested at different temperatures establish the NDT threshold. Our drop weight testers automate specimen feeding and positioning, while the four-column frame and solid steel base keep the impact area stable.

These drop weight impact testing machines have built-in safety measures such as a self-locking hammer which will stay locked in place should there be a power failure, a fully enclosed guard, and an interlock that blocks operation and activates an alarm when safety conditions are not met. They are equipped with Siemens PLC that monitors the specimen position, hammer status, and safety guard, while the touchscreen displays an alert if the control system detects a fault.
