Dynamic fatigue testing machines are material testing systems which apply repeated loads to specimens under controlled conditions in order to determine fatigue strength, to investigate the effect of repeated loading on a material, and to estimate how long a component can stay in service. In order to carry out the fatigue tests, the specimen is either pulled, compressed or is subjected to both pulling and compressing for a predetermined number of cycles or until it has reached a specified limit or until it breaks.

In order to simulate the forces that a material or component will have to endure in service, the operator chooses one of the tension-tension, tension-compression, or compression-compression modes and sets the load pattern as a sine, triangular, square, trapezoidal, or custom waveform. Fatigue tests can be used on various types of materials, such as metals, alloys, composites, and finished components, either at room temperature or at high temperatures, the test conditions can be determined in accordance with the relevant GB/T, ISO, or ASTM standard. Fatigue testing is widely used in aerospace, automotive, rail, and machinery development and other sectors that need to examine how the parts perform after being subjected to repeated loading.
