Drop Weight Impact Tester for Plastic
Applicable Standards
- ISO 3127, ISO 11343, ISO 13479
- ASTM D2444-21, ASTM D3763-18
Drop weight impact testers for plastics measure how well plastic sheets, pipes, and other specimens withstand a sudden impact. To perform the test, a striker of a specified weight is raised to a particular height and then allowed to fall, moving down the guide columns before hitting the specimen underneath. The amount of energy delivered to the specimen depends on the striker weight and the height from which it falls. The material's performance is evaluated by analyzing whether the specimen cracks, breaks, or shows some other kind of damage. The drop weight testers are also able to establish the height or energy at which 50% of a group of specimens fail, a value commonly used for comparing materials and for monitoring production quality.
