Battery powder compaction density testers are used to determine how the density of the cathode and anode powders changes when subjected to a controlled pressure. In order to carry out the test, operators first weighs a sample, fills the test die with it, and then initiates the loading program; during the test, the battery analyzer continuously records the force, the displacement, and the thickness of the sample before calculating the density that has been reached at each pressure level. The resulting pressure-density curve shows how compaction varies between materials and batches and can guide the selection of electrode compaction conditions, as well as studies into the relationship between density, capacity, internal resistance, and cycle life.

The loading program can maintain a constant rate of load, deformation, displacement, or strain through closed-loop control, depending on the method being followed. When a project requires a particular result, the software can use a custom calculation formula and include the selected values in the final report. Test parameters can follow relevant ISO, ASTM, DIN, JIS, or other material testing requirements, and the report template can carry the customer’s company name and logo.
